My goal, the ultimate purpose of me, is just my goal, someone else doesn’t concern anything about it, just as they don’t care anything you need to do, you consider to refuse, never hesitate, just “No”, that is it, you guarantee that they will not help you anymore, and you don’t help them; such a selfish strategy only works in a place of abundant resource, if the resources are scarce, you all plan a goal together for your all collective wellbeing, indeed latter strategy is the most optimal one in both abundant and scarce resource case, but people are selfish biased and they probably not help you if resources are redundant.
